The grisaille painting style is used to emulate the black and white way of thinking I have due to my BPD in regard to the future of my ancestry. Utilizing a grisaille approach to the base of the painting, applying a light blue wash to centre the piece, extending outward into a flushing motion. Water motifs are meant to express the sinking into fascism and ever-growing sea levels at the hands of these abstracted world leaders/billionaires. While their infamy comes at the costs of thousands upon thousands of lives, they’ll be remembered as tyrannical examples of what too much power and wealth does to a person. An abstracted version of their recognizability is meant to signify the uncertainty of the future at the hands of these people. The fewer areas of grey blending into white, and the overall darkness of the canvas are meant to show how evil has become a fearless act. This piece is an exploration of colonization and its long-lasting impact on the environment, socio-political ramifications, and its positionality in society today, impacting the destruction of life as we know it. My goal was to examine the actions of the main contributors to the destruction and wars that are ongoing through my own progressive leftist lens but also as someone who has BPD and struggles to see a future. I hate to see what the world has become over time and how people vehemently deny that evil has taken full control of the world. I refuse to give up on fighting back against it.
